A Merry Successful SantaCon 2018

SantaCon 2018 was a success in so many ways! Held on Saturday, December 8 in the Rainey Street Historic District, our 2nd annual Santa-themed fundraising celebration exceeded our wildest expectations! This holiday celebration and benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas drew twice as many attendees as last year, featured festive new team competitions and activities, and, most importantly, raised three times the amount of funds for BBBS than it did last year!

“Everyone gathered to have a great time for a great cause,” said Sara Grauerholz, Development Associate at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas. “We had over 1,000 Santas descend on Rainey Street, and raised enough funds to take 18 kids off of BBBS’ waiting list and get them matched with the caring adult mentors they need and deserve.”

Despite cooler than average temperatures and somber gray skies, the enthusiastic crowd made merry as they enjoyed food and drink specials at participating venues including Lustre Pearl, Bungalow, Container Bar, Clive Bar, Parlor Room, and Banger’s.

Celebrants also displayed plenty of creative spirit! This year’s costumes featured not only Santas, but also elves, reindeer, holiday-themed three-piece suits, ugly Christmas sweaters, and even a Grinch! A sweater-wearing dog got in on the fun as well!

“Our merry and spirited group took over Rainey Street,” said Sara, “all in support of BBBS’ mission to help children reach their potential.”

SantaCon fundraising teams who had raised $500 or more for BBBS also enjoyed some friendly competition at the event’s new ‘Reindeer Games.’ Coming out on top this year were Snowball Fight victors: Team Datum’s Promenading Tobaggonists; Christmas Carol Karaoke champions: Team Boulevard Nutcrackers; and Top Prancer Costume Contest fashionistas: Team Bumble.

Other new attractions at this year’s event included a Giving Tree, a photo booth (complete with Santa), a Kendra Scott jewelry sale, and some awesome event swag items!

“SantaCon 2018 raised over $25,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas’ mentoring services that change kids’ lives for the better, forever,” said Sara. “We can’t wait to start planning SantaCon 2019 to see what it grows into next year!”

Special thanks to this year’s event sponsors: Bumble, WeWork, The Austin Chronicle, BuildASign, Do512, and MyEventIsTheBomb.
