About Hobie Day 2011
Hundreds of Bigs, Littles and families flocked to Lake Travis on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, to cool down at the annual Hobie Day festivities. Hobie Day is a fun day on the lake, typically held in late July/early August for children and their mentors involved in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The event is named after its sponsor, Austin Cats (formerly Hobie Fleet 64), who sail Hobie Cats, which are smaller versions of the catamarans that sail on the ocean. Each child who attends the event has the chance to sail on a Hobie Cat with the boat’s skipper and their parent or Big (mentor).
For 30 years, this group of sailing enthusiasts has been donating this match activity to the children and volunteers in the BBBS program. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas organizes various activities throughout the year for our volunteers and their “Littles”. Hobie Day is a consistent favorite.
