Bowl for Kids 2024: Excitement Is Building

It’s time to polish your boots, shake out your lariat, and get ready for the wildest, rip-snortin’-est celebration east of the Pecos as we prepare for Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 2024 Bowl for Kids event! This rootin’-tootin’ roundup is set for April 19 & 20 at Highland Lanes. The event raises money to match caring, adult mentors with children who need them.

“Have fun and raise money to help kids. What can be better than that?” said Kedrick Jeffries, BBBS’ CEO. “Bowl for Kids has been going on for over 40 years, and it’s so much more than a bowling event. It’s about making a difference in our community.”

The Bowl for Kids season kicks off with several ‘lead-up’ events that help spread the word about Bowl for Kids and provide opportunities for team building while raising additional funds for BBBS. Project Serve will be hosting two volleyball clinics offering instruction from professional beach volleyball players, with a portion of ticket sales benefiting BBBS. Clinic dates are set for March 16 and April 13th.

The BFK Host Committee is also organizing a special trivia night to be held at Lustre Pearl East on April 9 at 8:00 pm. Participants can show off their trivia knowledge while supporting BBBS. It’s a great opportunity for non-bowlers to be part of the team and make a contribution.

This year’s Bowl for Kids event will also feature Bowling Bingo cards. A big hit last year, this fun side game allows players to win great prizes while bowling with their teams. For a nominal fee participants can purchase Bowling Bingo cards and then mark items off their cards as they bowl – such as getting a strike, a gutter ball on the left side, or even rolling the ball backwards between their legs.

The Bowl for Kids Host Committee is so excited about this year’s event, there is no telling what other shenanigans they will come up with. “I am very excited to be chairing this year’s Bowl for Kids event,” said Brandon Christensen. “This marks my 21st year bowling for such an incredible organization and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of BFK. I’ve seen firsthand how BBBS impacts our community’s youth as I was a Big to a remarkable Little named Javon for over 7 years, and we still keep in touch. You don’t want to miss Bowl for Kids!”

Wendy Cosby, Locations Services Manager for RSM, the Kingpin sponsor for Bowl for Kids, is also enthused about this year’s celebration. “I’m looking forward to meeting the supporters and VIB’s (Very Important Bowlers) with a celebration of impact for the youth in our community,” said Wendy.

Having a team in place to help “get the ball rolling” is a huge plus. “We are incredibly excited and energized by the dedication and enthusiasm of this year’s Bowl for Kids Host Committee,” said Maddison Ellis, BBBS Development Manager. “Their commitment to making BFK a memorable and impactful event is truly inspiring. It’s a testament to their hard work and passion for our cause. We couldn’t ask for a better team, and I have no doubt that they will continue to do an amazing job.”

Participants will also want to dust off their Stetsons and polish up their buckles because Bowl for Kids features a popular costume contest and photo booth. This year’s theme is the Best of the West, so we expect to see a lot of cowboy hats and boots… though we might also see some Dallas Cowboys or other interpretations of the theme. Past themes have included Peace, Love and Bowling – a 60’s theme where Austin Powers made an appearance; a space theme which included storm troopers and Jedi warriors; a dinosaur theme complete with Fred Flintstone; and a pirate theme with a 3-D pirate ship and plenty of eye patches.

Don’t miss out on this super fun shindig as we raise money to match kids with adult mentors who can help them thrive. Visit our website to form a fundraising team, join a team, or donate to get started now. With more than 200 kids waiting, we need you to ride tall in the saddle today!
