Building Digital Skills – Austin Digital Empowerment Event

Efficient access to the internet can often be taken for granted or overlooked, but this type of access isn’t always available to everyone.

In an effort to bridge the digital divide, Visa and Human-I-T have formed a partnership to provide laptop computers, educational resources, training, and access to the internet to minority-owned small businesses and low-income students and families.

In February, BBBS was one of several organizations invited to attend an Austin Digital Empowerment event where a few of our Big Futures mentees and scholarship recipients received training in digital skills, free Chromebooks, and access to Visa’s financial literacy program.

“We were beyond excited and grateful to have had the opportunity to attend this digital empowerment event,” Christina Eisenlord, Big Futures Program Manager, said. “Building digital equity for our mentees will go a long way to providing them with greater opportunities, equal access, and inclusion.”

Human-I-T and Visa also donated a total of 113 Chromebooks for older mentees in BBBS’ Big Futures and Scholarship programs.

Thanks to Visa and Human I-T for their generous support and partnership, and for helping to build the skills and abilities of BBBS mentees and other youth in our community!
