State of the Agency
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas is moving forward with purpose—building a stronger future for local youth through renewed investment in mentorship. This momentum is only possible because of the continued support of our community—those who believe in the power of mentorship and are committed to helping youth thrive.
Together, we’ve made significant progress. We’ve moved into a new, purpose-built facility that fosters growth, connection, and community. We’ve launched innovative initiatives that respond to the evolving needs of the youth and families we serve. Our work has been recognized both locally and nationally for its strength and quality. We’ve built a dynamic, high-performing professional team dedicated to our mission, and we’ve raised our performance metrics to an all-time high—delivering measurable, meaningful impact across Central Texas.
We now serve more than 500 young people each year—but more than 200 are still waiting for a mentor. These youth deserve access to the proven benefits of one-to-one mentoring: improved academic engagement, increased confidence, stronger mental health, and greater long-term opportunity.
As we expand to meet the growing need, we face significant challenges. Among them is the potential loss of critical federal funding, as shifts in national priorities continue to threaten resources for youth-serving organizations across the country. These dollars have helped sustain proven, cost-effective programs like ours—and without them, we risk losing the capacity to serve the very youth who need us most.

CEO, BBBS of Central Texas
Kedrick Jeffries
Big Brothers Big Sisters is pleased to welcome Kedrick Jeffries as the agency’s new Chief Executive Officer. A Central Texas native, Jeffries grew up literally “a stone’s throw” from BBBS’ former office on Tillery Street. “I understand, firsthand, the needs of the youth and families we serve and how important it is for every child to have the presence of a consistent, caring adult in their lives,” said Jeffries. “I’m serious about this mission and I’m excited to help the organization grow its impact.”
It is this sense of mission and connection that lead him to BBBS. “I really like working with youth,” he said. “There is no greater sense of pride than to work in your own community, to help, and to create positive change.”
Jeffries comes to BBBS from The Boys and Girls Clubs of Austin where he most recently served as the Chief Club Operations Officer. He previously worked with Communities in Schools of Central Texas and with the Austin and Pflugerville independent school districts leading Out of School Time programming, as well as with the AFL-CIO and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in Washington, D.C.
He is also a fellow of the local African American Leadership Institute and Minister of Music at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf, and traveling.

Meet Our Team
Facilities/Mentoring Center
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas opened its new Bennett-Rathgeber Mentoring Center in October of 2016. Located in East Austin’s Robert Mueller Development, the state-of-the-art facility provides more than 20,000 square feet of administrative and program space, enabling BBBS to better serve clients, volunteers and the community as a whole. With room to grow, we look forward serving even more children and families in the years to come, providing professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Agency History
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Central Texas began in East Austin in 1963, when community leader Lonnie McArthur and Father Richard McCabe partnered to connect boys in need with positive adult mentors. What started with just five matches has grown into a thriving program serving nearly 1,000 youth annually across Central Texas.
Over the years, BBBS of Central Texas has expanded to serve both boys and girls and developed targeted support for youth transitioning to adulthood and those from military families. We were also the first BBBS affiliate in the nation to establish a scholarship program through the Foundation for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, encouraging Littles to graduate high school and pursue higher education.
Through decades of change, our mission has remained constant: to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. With the help of our incredible volunteers, Littles and their families, supporters, and staff, we continue to build brighter futures for the next generation.
