Big Brothers Big Sisters Message of Thanksgiving

Dear Friends,

As the saying goes, “It’s not joy that makes us grateful but gratitude that makes us joyful.”

I am so thankful and joyful to be here as I begin my journey with BBBS of Central Texas and join this amazing mission to make a positive difference in the lives of kids.

As a lifelong member of this community, I understand the importance and value of this work. The need to help kids stay in school and maintain or improve their academic performance, to help them set their sights on brighter futures, to help them discover paths to reach their full potential.

I am thankful for the successes of this past year, and excited about the new initiatives and partnerships that are already forming or underway to serve even more kids as we go forward.

Together, we are building and growing connections that strengthen our visibility throughout Austin and put our mission in front of even more people who can help… organizations such as Austin FC, businesses such as Kerbey Lane Cafe, and innovative start-ups such as College Contact. All of these agency partners and friends help to amplify our mission and provide additional resources and support for our kids.

I am also grateful for all of you, long-time friends and supporters who have made our growth not just possible, but additionally meaningful and impactful. You have sponsored and participated in events such as Bowl for Kids, our annual Ice Ball Gala, our Promising Futures Scholarship Ceremony and so much more. Your involvement and support have allowed us to serve more than 700 children this year, and to serve them really well.

I’m also thankful for the opportunity to lead a team that demonstrates joy and gratitude daily. Their respect and appreciation for one another brings a positivity to the BBBS workplace that shines—even when times are tough. I’m grateful for such an awesome team and for the leadership provided by our incredible Executive Board.

Surrounded by agency supporters, families, children, volunteers, Board members and community and corporate partners who go above and beyond, plus an excellent staff, I’m ready for all of the possibilities that 2024 brings and the opportunity to take our work to the next level.
