Bowl For Kids 2022 – What’s New?!

Surf’s up! And this year’s Bowl for Kids ‘Beach Bowl’ is generating waves of excitement! Set for April 22 & 23 at Highland Lanes, this two-day, themed bowling event helps Big Brothers Big Sisters raise the funds needed to provide caring, adult mentors for more children who need them. So, put on your flip flops and Hawaiian shirt, because we’ve got a lot of new things in store for the 39th year of this special event.

“This year we’re excited to offer some fun, new, lead-up events before our Bowl for Kids (BFK) weekend,” said Emily Franke, BBBS VP of Development. “These new activities provide an opportunity for our BFK teams, friends, families, and BBBS supporters to socialize prior to the main event, and they offer the community a chance to support our BFK teams, and BBBS, in new and engaging ways.”

These new events include a pickleball tournament on March 24th at Bouldin Acres and a Trivia Night on April 12 at Lustre Pearl South. “These events give families, friends, and colleagues the chance to come together for some friendly competition,” said Emily. “And they provide additional opportunities for our BFK teams to add to their fundraising efforts. It’s all designed to foster team camaraderie and fun.”

BFK teams can ask their networks to support their fundraising efforts by signing up to compete in the pickleball tournament or by coming to watch the crowning of the first ever Bowl for Kids Pickleball Champion. Entry into the pickleball tournament is $100 per team and can be credited to the fundraising efforts of any of our Bowl for Kids teams.

“Our trivia night at Lustre Pearl South is another engagement and fundraising opportunity for our teams and supporters,” said Emily. “Each trivia player is asked to make a $10 donation to participate, which can be credited toward any Bowl for Kids team’s fundraising goal.”

We are not only offering new lead-up events this year, but this year’s Bowl for Kids also offers new incentives for individuals on participating teams. “As in past years, teams who raise $750 get to enjoy a fun bowling party at Highland Lanes, and those who raise $1,250 or more are considered VIBs (Very Important Bowlers) who get to enjoy the party plus extra perks,” said Emily. “But this year individual team members can also qualify for fundraising incentives including a restaurant prize pack, beach towel, and more!”

While there are a lot of new components to this year’s event, there are plenty of time-honored traditions as well. “We are thrilled to be back at Highland Lanes for the 39th annual Bowl for Kids,” said Emily. “Teams can expect the same fun and competitive atmosphere at the bowling alley, and of course there will be a costume contest for this year’s Beach Bowl theme.”

Bowl for Kids really does put the “fun” in fundraising. “There’s just a lot to enjoy,” said Stefan Sinclair, BBBS’ Bowl for Kids 2022 Host Committee Chair, and former Big Brother. “Many of us in the video gaming industry have participated in Bowl for Kids for many years. We always have a great time competing to see who can raise the most money, then competing on the bowling lanes. It’s fun to connect with others who have a passion for BBBS’ mission of helping kids. Plus, my family always enjoys dressing up in costumes. We get to have fun and raise money for a great cause. It’s a win-win.”

As Emily points out, it’s this type of enthusiastic support that makes Bowl for Kids so successful. “Our fundraising teams and BBBS supporters are the heart of Bowl for Kids,” said Emily. “We are so grateful to all of our Bowl for Kids teams who choose to impact the children BBBS serves by fundraising and sharing their passion with the community.”

“Help us reach our goal of raising $100,000!” Emily added. “Start your Bowl for Kids team and invite others to join you! Then, share why you are passionate about the work Big Brothers Big Sisters is doing with your friends and family. Your passion will inspire others to be a part of something BIG!”
